‘Life's not fair, is it? Some of us drink Champagne in the fast lane, and some of us eat our sandwiches by the loose chippings on the A597’, Victoria Wood (1953-2016)
A treasure-trove of ‘lost’ sketches, comedy monologues, stand-up and song lyrics by the much-loved British comedian Victoria Wood (1953-2016). With a wealth of unpublished scripts, characterful scenes and classic-Wood material, the book presents unseen gems discovered by the performer’s official biographer Jasper Rees; now adding to the acclaimed repertoire of a one-of-a-kind British comedy legend. Mixing material from 30 years and arranged chronologically: discover lyrics to songs, from a hymn to King Kong to 'We're Having a Party for the End of the World’; draft scripts for ‘Acorn Antiques’ and ‘As Seen on TV’, 1985-87; through to a poignant prize-giving day speech given by Wood at University College School and the poem ‘Whitney’s Wedding’, written and performed for a friend’s wedding in 2013. With contextual notes and explanations, along with – where available – casting notes for scenes which were later cut, fans of the performer will enjoy visualising and directing their own performance.
