The Indian elephant is the State Animal of Kerala in southern India and is proudly featured and reverenced in many of the region's temples and religious celebrations. For instance, the Punnathurkotta palace grounds are now home to over 50 of the sacred Temple elephants of the Guruvayoor temple.
