Description
Charming notecards featuring folk-inspired designs of forest-dwelling squirrels, birds and butterflies. Reproducing contemporary designs by New York illustrator Jennifer Orkin Lewis. In Sweden, the folk custom of planting a lone tree, known as a ‘Vårdträd’, or ‘guardian tree’, persisted into the late 19th century. Such trees, and the creatures living within them, were held to be sacred. The tree was believed to bring protection to the homestead, reflecting the Norse roots of the great mythological tree ‘Yggdrasil’, in which a dragon, an eagle, stags and the squirrel Ratatoskr dwelt. Lovely cards, with three designs to send for a multitude of occasions and a useful ‘Thank You’ design.
