From ‘torana’, a Sanskrit word meaning sacred gateway, torans and bandanwaars are used to decorate the entrance to homes throughout India, offering guests an auspicious welcome. Traditionally decorated with marigolds, the tasselled portions are thought to symbolise mango leaves.
